虽然造成祥子这出悲剧的编剧是那个阴暗的`社会，但导演依然是他自己。他虽然健壮忠厚，但他是自私且无脑的，无论是在曹宅丢钱后想着偷回几样东西补偿，还是拒绝曹妈为他设想的生钱之路生怕丢了钱，还是在他丢车之后抢别的车夫的买卖及至最后他的沦陷，无一不是自私的表现，而推翻这个吃人的社会，只有人们都认清现实成了群打成阵才行，而自私是当时社会人们致命的弱点。
